Stop over-gripping. Beginners squeeze far harder than the load requires, usually out of nerves. Consciously easing to about the pressure you actually need can extend a climb noticeably.
Use the legs earlier. A foot lock or a leg wrap taken sooner in a sequence removes load from the hands for the seconds that matter. Aerialists who feel strong are often the ones getting their legs involved a beat earlier.
Fix your hang position. Hanging with shoulders fully passive shifts more work to the hands and elbows. Engaging the shoulders slightly - a small active pull - puts the load through the back where it belongs.
Chalk properly and dry between attempts. Sweaty hands mean you grip harder to compensate, which burns the forearm faster than the actual hold does. This is the small one that surprises people, and it is worth two or three extra seconds per hang on a humid late-summer evening.
5 Mistakes Everyone Makes With Aerial Grip
1. Only training grip inside aerial class. By the time you are on the fabric you are also learning skills and managing fear. Grip work needs its own low-stakes slot where fatigue is the point.
2. Going to failure every set. Grip trained to complete failure recovers slowly and interferes with the next two days. Stop a couple of seconds short - endurance responds better to frequency than to maximum effort.
3. Ignoring the extensors entirely. Everything in aerial is flexion. Training only the grippers builds an imbalance that shows up as elbow pain months later. Cheap rubber bands around the fingers, opening against resistance, take two minutes.
4. Training grip on the same day as heavy pulling. Deadlifts and rows already tax the forearms. Stacking dedicated grip work on top gives you soreness rather than adaptation.
5. Assuming callus pain is grip fatigue. Skin failure and muscle failure feel different and need different responses. If it is skin, tape and manage the callus. If you file down your calluses right before a session, expect a bad session - do it several days out.

Towel hangs (fabric-specific): drape a towel over the bar and hang from the ends. Harder and closer to the compressed grip aerial demands. 3 sets of 10 to 20 seconds.
